ERKRATH. This place is beautiful, a jewell. People are standing still and enjoy looking at the play. Norbert Koch (48) the new chairman of ”Cercles des Petanquers” like the ideal weather as in last week. Koch followed the former chairman Klaus Lohoff, who has been chairman for 15 years. With the ground at Gerberstrasse the club has brought a piece of French culture to Erkrath. With this motto, the new chairman will thry to reach new groups for this fascinating sport. We are not standing just to throw balls says Norbert Koch no, petanque is for those who seek exitement and high concentration. The player who is overdoing it, will never be a good player.

What it has to do with sport and game to do, people from Erkrath can learn that on Saturdays and Sundays. The club will show another type of sport and try with offers to attract elderly people to the sport. Back or knee problems do not count says Koch to me. There are magnets to be used for picking up the ball, as shown on the picture. On May 1st 2003 the games will not take place at Gerberstrasse but at Freiheitstrasse. There it is possible to be 64 players. June 7th an international tournament takes place. The participants are a Danish company team from Grundfos in Denmark, who are in Erkrath to visit the German company there, and 20 Dutch are also participating. From May to September, the league games take place. The four teams from Erkrath are training to win the games. The vice chairman Peter Leydel and Falko Welk are dealing with the young players while Koch are dealing with project teams. The club is also working at building an Initiative House. This should be a replacement of the old club house near the petanque fields, available for the users of the park. There are 55,000 Euro from the city and the club are in with 10,000 euro for the financing, and therefore the club wants to be part of the process.
