Tour to Croatia in 2009

The Petanque club has participated in the European company sport games in Croatia.

As usual with great backup to the tour from the players. We were 18 players for the games, unfortunately three had to stay at home due to illness. The 15 petanque players together with other Grundfos sports people went to Croatia. There were 64 teams from various European countries. The arrangement was, winners meet winners, and loosers meet loosers. The games continued until 16 part finals. This means that every team has played 6 games. In the 16 part final you start with one against 16, then 2 against 15 and so on. Is was win or disappear.

Two Grundfos teams were between the 16, and there were also other Danish teams, the rest of the teams were from Southern Europe. All the Danish teams were in the 16 final. The Grundfos team with Gerda Nielsen and Jørn V. Jensen were the best Danish team with number 9, well done considering the teams they were up against. Inger Marie Hørlyk and Henry Nielsen were the second best Danish team as number 11, also well done. All the winners came from the south. It was a great experience to participate and to be there. Then we must try to do it better in 2 years time in Hamburg

A look at a wonderful island in Croatia we are going to visit

Same place from another angle

Well arrived at Frankfurth airport from Billund

There was a lot af waiting time to spend

Yes, how to spend 1½ hours waiting time

The journey was not so well planned, we spent 1½ hours in Frankfurth before leaving for Venice.

Finally arrived at Venice. Then find the bus for Croatia

Then get your luggage in the right bus and get going.

The entrance to the place where we were to stay.

There were many participants from Grundfos. Football, Bowling, Badminton, Petanque and 3-4 more.

Everyone is waiting to get their keys to their rooms.

Yes, something is to be done while you are waiting.

There were two going to the toilet to change clothes before the match in Rovinj.

It was hot, so it was good to be in the shadow.

Here is one who had to change clothes quickly

Here is another one. Both were chosen to be representatives of Denmark.

Jørn carrying the flag, he was very proud.

There were many from Denmark together with thousand others to see the opening march.

There was also a very nice girl guard.

Just a look at the Danish part.

There were also many local people to see the march.

Now all gathered together in a large market place

It is impressing. It was a moment you will never forget.

A fantastic view in all colours.

Just an overview so you can see the number of people

People stood very close to each other.

The official flag has arrived on the stage, ready to be hoisted.

All the participating countries had placed there flags on the stage.

Here a view of some of them.

The day after, there were very few people.

In the information tent, you could see where the diferent diciplines were located, and when.

It was also possible to buy souvenirs if you wanted some souvenirs.

The trade went on as well as the information.

Taking a look at the overview map

Everyting was under control, and it was very clean everywhere.

There were many methods. Just take a look at the view.

It was a very good idea to use sunglasses. The sun and the water was bad for your eyes.

There were short breaks between the games, so it was possible to get something to eat or to drink.

Here is Løkke and Benthe in a match.

Løkke – Jens Peter – Gudrun and Lisbeth have found a place with shadow under the only trea.

Here. Gerda and Jørn, against two Frenchmen.

The start was very good for the couple.

Now the measuring band at work, but it was not good this time.

The French must do it again, there was a lot of thinking at both parts

Inger Marie and Henry had also a very close match.

It is clear how close the play was.

Henry had to measure the distance while their opponents from Germany are watching.

It was the Germans turn to throw the next ball.

The game is over for Inger Marie and Henry, they lost 13-9. For Gerda and Jørn is was not much better, they lost their game 13-11, and their oponents won the games.

Beach promenade by Inger Marie, Lisbeth, Gerda, Henry Gudrun and Sv.Åge. The beach is just where we stayed.

That day, a cool shower came, but it did not spoil the good mood.

There were large overview maps everywhere, it was easy to find the others diciplines.

Even the busses were easy to use.

Drying of clothes high up is something you see in many of the small streets in Rovinje.

A fountain at the market place.

Studying the chart, what are we going to have today.

Ice cream on a hot day is always welcome.

Some Croatians are living nice and well,

and some not so nice.

Gudrun, Jens Peter, Henry and Brian really relaxed on souvenir street.

A market for vegetables, here is everything you could dream about.

Nothing is lacking on the shelves.

Time for dinner at a very good restaurant by the harbour.

There are still many houses with shutters.

The newspaper is brought, now it is just to find place to read it.

Again, one of the small streets with clothes hanging out to dry.

Lovely blue and warm water.

Enjoying the sunset.

The last evening, it seems that everyone is meeting at the market place.

Many people say goodby to Rovinje and hello to Hamburg 2011.
